Upcycle Open Studio

Got a jacket that's too plain? Jeans with a hole? A sweatshirt that needs more personality? Bring it along.

This isn't a class. It's three hours of dedicated creative time where you get to make whatever you want, surrounded by other people doing the same. Whether you arrive with a detailed plan or absolutely no clue what you're making, I'll be there to help you use the equipment, answer questions, brainstorm ideas, troubleshoot, and cheer you on.

I'll provide a GIANT buffet of supplies and tools including sewing machines, irons, cutting supplies, embroidery floss, patches, appliqué materials, fabric paint, bedazzler, and everything you need for visible mending or giving your clothes a whole new life.

The vibe is very Montessori. Everyone follows their own curiosity, works at their own pace, and picks up ideas from each other along the way. Some people will stitch. Some will paint. Some will cover everything in sparkles. There are no rules, no formal instruction, and no pressure to make something "Pinterest perfect."

Skills Needed:

Any skill levels are welcome. Basic instruction will be provided to operate any of the tools, but if you want baked-in knowledge and confidence with using a sewing machine, you can book a Private Session with Vod to learn sewing machine basics.

Sewing Machine Rental:

Want to use one of Vod’s sewing machines during this open studio time? Select the $10 Sewing Machine Rental option at registration.

Disclaimer:

If you decide to alter the fit of your clothing, you should know I'm not a professionally trained seamstress. I am someone with chutzpah, a basic understanding of garment construction, and a deep appreciation for beautifully wonky creations. Around here, perfection is wildly overrated. We experiment, we learn, we laugh at our mistakes, and we wear them proudly.
